Dear Allison,
There are no words for how sorry I am for your and Adam’s loss, so I’m posting a wordless comic to represent me, staring and stupefied as this year of awful, awful news draws to a close. I am always a phone call or Internet whatever away, and I love you very much.
-Tracy

This year. I am going to blame this year for my inability to finish NaBloPoMo yet again. Maaaaaaaan, this year.

Bowl of super-crispy roasted potatoes (Subtitle: because I know how to party on a Friday night).

I love that I already had a “potatoes” tag. And hey, even though I’ve pretty much lost the NaBloPoMo bubble this month, at least I managed to post something somewhere yesterday even though it turns out to have been an even worse day than previously imagined, goddammit.

Ian McKellen took over the official Hobbit movie Twitter feed on December 6 and answered fan questions… the results were about as awesome as you might expect. This picture is probably my favorite, but they’re all well worth checking out….

Just found this in my “Drafts” for this blog, adding it to the queue because sometimes Dinosaur Comics reads my freaking mind.

I could seriously watch this all day. New York in action is a thing of endless beauty and fascination as far as I’m concerned.

(via Meryl Streep and Hillary Clinton Picture | The Mary Sue)
Today’s post is about how friends are the best. I don’t know if Hillary Rodham Clinton and Meryl Streep consider each other friends, but they both look so thrilled to be in this picture that I’m making them my poster ladies for the day. And if that picture didn’t already make your heart explode with joy, or even if it did, then I invite you to read this article on female friendship from The Rumpus, an oldie (by Intertweetplustumblface standards) but goodie which I only read for the first time this week thanks to a share from my beautiful friend the fabulous Chiara (who is coming to visit soon, yay! Tea parties and Ethiopian food for everyone!)
TL;DR — Friends rule, and this picture is heck of cute.

(via Next week is Hobbit Week on The Colbert Report)
Next week then is this week now and so far these episodes are AWESOME (as of the time of this posting, when my opinion was based on Monday’s show and clips of Tuesday’s… by the time this goes up others will probably be available at the Colbert Nation videos page).

If you do not love Reading Rainbow then I almost don’t even know what to say to you. Books! Imagination! LeVar Burton being almost painfully sincere! I just… yes! Woo! I’m in! Will I have to get an iPad just to use the app or will it be available for my phone someday? I sure hope so!

Judi Dench’s M was partly inspired by real-life MI5 director general Stella Rimington, the first woman to hold the job and the first to have her identity revealed to the general public. While Rimington served from 1992-1996, Judi Dench’s M was in the job from 1995 (GoldenEye) until the present day, making her 77 years old at the time of her decision to fight Javier Bardem’s campy cyber-terrorist supervillain using home-made nail bombs and a sawn-off shotgun. If you don’t think that this is the best thing ever, then you’re clearly a slug, because, well… do you know how many old ladies you see in roles like this? The list pretty much begins and ends with Helen Mirren in RED. And before you all rush to the comments section with your various Favourite Old Ladies Who Get Shit Done (although obviously I would very much appreciate that list), remember that for every fifty Dumbledores in popular culture, we get maybe one or two Professor McGonagalls.
(via Hello, tailor.: Skyfall: the new Bond Girls.)

Apropos of pretty much nothing (except that I have recently come to love Hello, Tailor via awesome posts on costuming and characterization in The Avengers, themselves linked to via the utterly fabulous Hawkeye Initiative, which makes me so happy I can’t even): Annnnnnnnd now I want to see Skyfall, even though I am kind of the opposite of into Daniel Craig’s 007. Go figure? Badass old ladies FTW forever!
Update: I could not resist enhancing this post with more Hello, Tailor awesomeness about The Avengers and its prequels (notably Thor, which I have not seen but now have queued up on Amazon instant video because I am suggestible like that). Also yay Hello, Tailor on Tumblr!
Update update: I, um, totally watched Thor within hours of scheduling this for posting. It was terrible and fabulous, all at the same time, and I regret NOTHING.

I composed this on December 4 and so it counts as my December 4 post, dangit.

(via How to Knit Your Own One Ring Scarf | The Mary Sue)
Someday, I will learn to knit, and awesome projects like this will be mine. Meanwhile, I am posting this where one of my favorite knitters can see, with a note (also via The Mary Sue) that the pattern is available free online. Because yay geeky crafts!
